Meet Dave Ross      

Hello fellow Maumee residents!

My name is Dave Ross and I will be running in the recall election.

I have been a Maumee resident for 36 years and am not a politician, just a recently retired blue-collar worker. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management. I spent the next 42 years as a large mammal keeper at the Toledo Zoo; 38 as a full time employee, four years part-time  during COVID, retiring in early 2020.  As a union member of AFSCME Local 3640, I served close to 20 years as president and also had terms as vice-president and treasurer. Over the course of these years I helped negotiate nine contracts between the union and zoo management.

I, like many of the residents, paid little attention to local politics, figuring our Mayor and Council members were looking out for the best interest of the residents and the town. My first inkling of something being strange was the 2022 ordinance that made homeowners responsible for the sewer lines in the right of way. I thought it seemed strange but figured it would probably never really have an effect on my family. Fast forward to 2024 and the initial sewer ordinance. That's when it hit me; this was a pre-planned event to push all costs on the homeowners for sewer repairs. Not my idea of doing what’s best for the residents and city.

I got involved early in the recall process and volunteered time at the recall center, drive thru and going to residents homes to collect signatures. I have also been involved with CMAC (Citizens of Maumee Action Committee) volunteering on their finance committee. I am currently a volunteer with Blessing in Disguise. I also spend time with my wife going to antique malls and flea markets, walking my dogs and birding at the various parks.

At this point, I am being flexible to see how everything develops, before I make a decision who to run
against. My main goal as a councilman is to give the residents back a voice in city matters. I believe in
the recall as the residents should have the opportunity to decide if we need to stay the course or change and rethink our direction. I would appreciate your support. Thank you!
